THE KNOWN OFFENDERS
IN 1999, a mutual friend introduced Roger DiPierno, Shawn McDonald and their guitars to each other at a back-yard tiki bar in suburban New York. Over a coolerful of Rolling Rocks, a musical partnership was formed, which developed into an acoustic guitar act billed as The Known Offenders.
Over the next few years, The Known Offenders developed a loyal local following, bringing their "unplugged" versions of pop and rock classics to bars, parties and festivals in and around their native Rockland County.
In 2002, Roger and Shawn decided to become a two-trick act and "go electric" part-time. The duo worked with a series of drummers over the years, but never found the right combination of percussion and personality. Finally, in February of 2008, they posted an ad on-line, and that's where drummer Rick Merchant came in.
Opportunities arose for the band to play a few larger events, which inspired further personnel additions. Rick brought in Eddie Bendlin (bass), enabling Shawn to assume vocal duties full-time. A friend introduced Vera Usinowicz (vocals & guitar) to the band, considerably expanding the group's repertoire and completing the lineup which performs in the videos posted on the band's MySpace and Facebook pages.
The KO’s have become known for the upbeat, party-positive atmosphere they bring to their shows. On any given night, the band will cover artists as diverse as Green Day, Frank Sinatra, Wings, INXS and Garth Brooks. "Our plan is simple" says Shawn, "get people to laugh, sing, dance a little... have fun! Because like Arthur Bach said, "Fun is the best thing to have!!"
